The first artist permitted to create an installation at the Eiffel Tower, Fairey’s ‘Earth Crisis’ was unveiled in time for the COP2 Climate Conference in Paris. Fairey had been promoting a sustainability agenda since the 1990s with designs for campaign material for influential environmental groups.

Fairey is a contemporary street artist, graphic designer, illustrator, activist, and founder of OBEY Clothing who emerged from the skateboarding scene. He became known for the OBEY sticker campaign ‘Andre the Giant has a Posse’ while attending Rhode Island School of Design. During the 2008 US presidential election, Fairey became widely known for his Barack Obama ‘Hope’ poster. Described by the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston as one of the most influential and best-known street artists Fairey’s work includes collections at The Smithsonian, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, The National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, UK.
