Deliverance from Another Sore Fit by Anne Bradstreet

Anne Bradstreet 1612-1672

Deliverance from Another Sore Fit
1661

In my distress I sought the Lord
When naught on earth could comfort give,
And when my soul these things abhorred,
Then, Lord, Thou said’st unto me, “Live.”

Thou knowest the sorrows that I felt;
My plaints and groans were heard of Thee,
And how in sweat I seemed to melt
Thou help’st and Thou regardest me.

My wasted flesh Thou didst restore,
My feeble loins didst gird with strength,
Yea, when I was most low and poor,
I said I shall praise Thee at length.

What shall I render to my God
For all His bounty showed to me?
Even for His mercies in His rod,
Where pity most of all I see.

My heart I wholly give to Thee;
O make it fruitful, faithful Lord.
My life shall dedicated be
To praise in thought, in deed, in word.

Thou know’st no life I did require
Longer than still Thy name to praise,
Nor ought on earth worthy desire,
In drawing out these wretched days.

Thy name and praise to celebrate,
O Lord, for aye is my request.
O grant I do it in this state,
And then with Thee, which is the best

Watching the Hands

Watching the Hands
Form: Cavatina

Whilst watching the clock the hands stand so still
Minutes last for hours
And waiting keeps dragging endlessly on
Patience falls apart
Yet looking away fears the missing it
When time moves too fast
Watching the time while things never happen
All happens at once if eyes look away

A Year in the Life – Day 109

Day 109
Prompt: What is your birthstone

Hi Nigel,

‘Hiya! I have no idea.

It’s amethyst.

‘You would know that’

Well, yeah, crystals and stones are my thing.

‘Do you have one?’

I have a few. The cat on my altar is amethyst and the big chunky candle holder is too

‘The amethyst being the bits that sparkle in the candlelight?’

Yes.

‘That thing is so cool, now I know why I like watching it flicker’

You could also have jasper as your birthstone

‘I have two?’

Oddly, February has two stones yes.

Which one is jasper?’

On my altar, it is the red figurine by Daddy’s photo

‘Oh, now that is a gorgeous stone. Do I have to choose?’

No, you can use either or both.

‘Good, as I like both of them. I wouldn’t know how to choose?’

Haha! Choosing crystals and stones is where the magic comes in

‘Really?’

I don’t know how else to explain it, so yes

‘So you have to get all izzy whizzy and cast a spell to choose a stone?’

Not exactly. There is no spellcasting involved. The fact is I don’t choose my stones

‘Huh?’

They choose me

‘What? How? It’s not like a stone will jump up and down saying me me me’

It takes practice, but I open up to the stone and try and pick up on its vibrations.

‘So you feel something if you hold it in your hand?’

Yes, and sometimes I don’t even have to handle it

‘Now you better explain that?’

If the vibrations are strong enough, I feel them as my hand nears the stone

‘That makes a weird sort of sense’

You’ll have to drop into my head next time I am at Avebury

‘I don’t need asking twice, I love Avebury’

Okay! See you tomorrow, Nige
