Deliverance from a Fit of Fainting by Anne Bradstreet

Anne Bradstreet 1612-1672

Deliverance from a Fit of Fainting
1650

Worthy art Thou, O Lord, of praise,
But ah! It’s not in me.
My sinking heart I pray Thee raise
So shall I give it Thee.

My life as spider’s webb’s cut off,
Thus fainting have I said,
And living man no more shall see
But be in silence laid.

My feeble spirit Thou didst revive,
My doubting Thou didst chide,
And though as dead mad’st me alive,
I here a while might ‘bide.

Why should I live but to Thy praise?
My life is hid with Thee.
O Lord, no longer be my days
Than I may fruitful be

Solitary Tear

Solitary Tear
Form: Roundel

The touch of a tear as it runs down my face
When love’s desire embraces my fear
The look in your eyes my only grace
The touch of a tear

That feeling of love when your soul draws near
Bring the solitary silver trace
The touch of a tear

On my neck where your kisses interlace
Reminding my heart of all I hold dear
As in you, I found my destiny’s place
The touch of a tear

A Year in the Life – Day 102

Day 102
Prompt: How will the world end

Hi Nigel,

‘Hiya! Is a cataclysmic puff of nothingness a reasonable answer?’

It’s an answer, and most likely accurate so yes, it is reasonable. What will bring it about?

‘Humans being idiots, simple as that’

So you don’t see the planet being hit by a gigantic meteor or absorbed into a blackhole then

‘If either of those were going to happen it would have happened already’

I suppose so

‘I don’t think the world will end completely, the human world will, but the planet will go on

100% with you on that.

‘The earth is magnificent, and doesn’t need humans to be so’

It does feel like humanity is an idea that didn’t really work out

‘A good idea at the time type thing’

Yes.

‘And it really wasn’t. I do wonder what made the creative bubble think a species devoid of common sense and full of its own self-power was a good idea’

A heavy night on the divine wine, maybe

‘Haha! That really does exemplify why making decisions under the influence is a bad idea and should be avoided’

It always ends up in carnage and destruction

‘And that is the best description of humanity ever’

So humanity has no redeeming qualities then?

‘’As a species, it is difficult to think of any. Of course, some individuals have got with it and are trying to make a difference…’

But…

‘I think it is too little too late’

I hope it isn’t, but you are probably right

‘Don’t get me wrong, I hope it isn’t too. But, individuals can only do so much, it needs the species as a whole to make it work.’

We can’t negate individual contributions as meaningless as the more individuals who do their bit makes it a movement in the right direction

‘That’s true. I think the biggest problem is the structure of civilization, really. Government is the main problem’

Damn right! Few governments are going to make the unpopular decisions to make those who don’t want to work towards protecting the planet

‘There is the Green Party, I suppose’

There is, but not enough actively support them

‘You do’

Well, I am a hippie tree-hugger. See you tomorrow, Nige
