On Love’s Wings

On Love’s Wings
Form: Awdl Gywydd

Without it, life is a drag
a dishrag of existence.
Care of you, love, just for me,
so that we last the distance.
I know our path lies beyond,
ever bonded, for all time.
Still I want the here and now
in love’s bough, is that a crime?
I have no magic potion,
just emotion, to hold you.
Without you, I am nothing,
on love’s wing, we’ll see it through

Example

Box of Lies by Jez Farmer

Out of reach
Outside the box
Box for packing up stuff
Box for fitting a tick
Tick tock go the clocks
Ticking time increasing distance
Distance expanding in the mind
Distance a stretch too far
Far out in oblivion
Far away from a smile
Smile for a reason
Smiling brightens the day
Daylight beckons a new horizon
Day and night
Nightmare illusions disturb
Night memories building walls
Walls surrounding the soul
Walls I cannot climb
Climbing ever higher
Climbing only to fall down
Down into the well of darkness
Down beyond the touch of love
Love the power of salvation
Love a grandiose futile illusion
Illusions of hope coming closer
Illusions then fade and disappear
Disappear in forgotten memories
Disappear from her vagaries of thought
Thoughts filling with shards of doubt
Thoughts piecing the broken heart
Heart stolen by desire
Heart once given freely left to die
Dying dreams fade into twilight
Dying senses no longer feel desire
Desire for things I cannot have
Desire for everything
Everything that I can see
Everything I cannot touch
Touch to ease the irrational mind
Touch inciting the deepest fear
Fear of loving too much
Fear of it not being enough
Enough to sate her want
Enough to meet one moment
Momentary lapse and its gone
Moments lost in the blink of a lie
Lies where wisdom cries
Lies to blind the world
World
Cries

Flow

Flow
Form: Free Verse and Rhyme
Theme: A Journey
Subject: Change

A change of place
a change of space
moving on to a different pace
junking the old
embracing the new taking hold
a step forward both bright and bold
old boots outward bound
taking a look at what is around
exploring what’s new to be found
letting instinct guide the way
discovering the beauty in a new day
finding love in a different way
closing the door on what used to be
another opens with something new to see
enlightening the soul to be free
when letting it all go
to drift gently on its flow
this journey of life will always glow

Remember My Hyacinths?

Beautiful art

Artistcoveries

Recently I shared a book review — Girl in Hyacinth Blue — and along with the post, I shared a little thumbnail photo of hyacinth in bloom. It’s a lovely flower, and I commented that perhaps I’d try painting hyacinth. Later that same morning as I gathered up my watercolors for another lesson on learning to paint looser, my mind went quickly back to those beautiful blooms.

The subject was, I think, ideal for the technique I was learning. It’s a technique that involves making lots of little brush strokes, using different colors. This sounds very simple, but for me it was profound. One problem I’ve had with watercolor is that I tend to paint with it. But, wait, isn’t that what one is supposed to do with watercolor?

Yes, but when I say paint I’m referring to a process akin to painting a wall! That is, just laying down…
