Hey Babe

Hey, Babe
Form: Cywydd Deuair Fyrion

In love I see
There’s you and me
Still dancing free
Hey babe, how be?
Is there a way
To see the day
I hear you say
A simple ‘hey’
Just to see you
Feel love is true
What can I do
But wait life through
I feel you near
But miss you here
When you set sail
Beyond the veil
This life turned stale
The sun shone pale
Without love’s kiss
Where is the bliss?

God’s Wheel by Shel Silverstein

God’s Wheel
1985

God says to me with a kind
of smile, “Hey how would you like
to be God awhile And steer the world?”
“Okay,” says I, “I’ll give it a try.

Where do I set?
How much do I get?
What time is lunch?
When can I quit?”

“Gimme back that wheel,” says God.
“I don’t think you’re quite ready YET.”

Palazzo Rucellai by Leon Battista Alberti

Palazzo Rucellai by Leon Battista Alberti

Palazzo Rucellai
1451
Architecture
Palazzo Rucellai, Florence, Italy

“Palazzo Rucellai” is a private residence designed by Alberti for his friend and patron Giovanni Rucellai, a renowned merchant. It is composed of three tiers that decrease in height as the gaze moves upwards. Distinguished by his reliance on antiquity for inspiration, Alberti used Roman-inspired columns positioned on either side of doorways and windows. These Roman elements make an intentional reference to the antiquity in Renaissance art and design.

City to City

Inspired by and written for Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge – thank you, Sue and GC

A chance to try my pen at Urban poetry, which is a literary art form for expressing feelings that are related to living in urban communities. Themes include poverty, social injustice, stress, struggles, and survival.

City to City
Form: Urban Poetry

In this season of self-obsessed greed
spending money we haven’t got
while complaining about the cost of living crisis
not stopping to think of a man losing his job
of a family made homeless
squeezed into a one-room bedsit
kids not getting a visit from a Santa
laden with over-indulgent presents
while a dad contemplates suicide
in the depths of despair
and a mum visiting a food bank
in desperation to feed her children
nothing fancy a basic meal
on Christmas day
over-priced turkeys memorialize
the tragedy of so many left in the cold
from city to city
the darkness of decision
and old man faces a decision in the darkness
heat or eat
his pension can’t do both
and alone he visits
his wife in the graveyard
to say “I love you”
the kids won’t be visiting this year
instead, they are lapping up the sun
in a country, he’s never been to
still, he feels the disappointed loneliness
of old age
in a city like any other
crowded with people
yet no one to care

Mama Cass/Cass Elliot

Inspired by and written for Song Lyric Sunday – thank you, Jim

The only copy I have of “Rolling Stone” is one I picked up in a yard sale a few years ago. I’m not gonna lie I love all things Mama Cass

Born Ellen Naomi Cohen (19 September 1941, Maryland, USA) Elliot was known professionally as Mama Cass then Cass Elliot. She was a member of the singing group The Mamas & the Papas and after the group broke up she released five solo album. Elliot died 29 July 1974 in Flat 12, 9 Curzon Place, Mayfair London. She was 32. A bit of rock weirdness here as four years later Keith Moon, the drummer for The Who died in the same room in the same flat at the age of 32. From 1968 I have chosen “Dream a Little Dream of Me” and the title track of Elliot’s album. The song was written by Gus Kahn, Wilbur Schwandt, and Fabian Andre

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper, “I love you”
Birds singin’ in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me

Say, “Nighty-night” and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you’ll miss me
While I’m alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I’m longing to linger ’til dawn, dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams ’til sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams, whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I’m longing to linger ’til dawn, dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams ’til sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries far behind you
But in your dreams, whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Sunday Sonnet: From Tuscany by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey

Henry Howard, Earl of Surry 1517-1547

From Tuscany came my lady’s worthy race;
Fair Florence was sometimes her ancient seat;
The western isle, whose pleasant shower doth face
Wild Camber’s cliffs, did give her lively heat.
Fostered she was with milk of Irish breast,
Her sire an earl, her dame of prince’s blood;
From tender years in Britain she doth rest,
With a king’s child, where she tastes ghostly food,
Hunsdon did first present her to my eyen:
Bright is her hue, and Geraldine she hight;
Hampton me taught to wish her first for mine,
And Windsor, alas, doth chase me from her sight.
Beauty of kind, her virtues from above,
Happy is he that may obtain her love
