Kiss My Iris Blue
Form: Ivorian Sonnet 82
Through the window, our garden speaks to me
In echoes of jasmine, roses, and maple tree
I feel you near in every scented bloom
But did the white rose kiss my iris blue
As clouds gather to bring a sudden gloom
But dreary skies have nothing left to say
When our garden speaks of tenderness shared
Where a love loved and forever to stay
Within the heart that took that chance and dared
To tell the greying clouds to go away
For those dreary days, our love had no room
Too late to stop the light of love from you
As they have nothing that can be compared
To the pure joy of knowing you love me

Veni, Creator Spiritus
1693
Creator Spirit, by whose aid
The world’s foundations first were laid,
Come, visit ev’ry pious mind;
Come, pour thy joys on human kind;
From sin, and sorrow set us free;
And make thy temples worthy Thee.
O, Source of uncreated Light,
The Father’s promis’d Paraclete!
Thrice Holy Fount, thrice Holy Fire,
Our hearts with heav’nly love inspire;
Come, and thy Sacred Unction bring
To sanctify us, while we sing!
Plenteous of grace, descend from high,
Rich in thy sev’n-fold energy!
Thou strength of his Almighty Hand,
Whose pow’r does heav’n and earth command:
Proceeding Spirit, our Defence,
Who do’st the gift of tongues dispence,
And crown’st thy gift with eloquence!
Refine and purge our earthly parts;
But, oh, inflame and fire our hearts!
Our frailties help, our vice control;
Submit the senses to the soul;
And when rebellious they are grown,
Then, lay thy hand, and hold ’em down.
Chase from our minds th’ Infernal Foe;
And peace, the fruit of love, bestow;
And, lest our feet should step astray,
Protect, and guide us in the way.
Make us Eternal Truths receive,
And practise, all that we believe:
Give us thy self, that we may see
The Father and the Son, by thee.
Immortal honour, endless fame,
Attend th’ Almighty Father’s name:
The Saviour Son be glorified,
Who for lost Man’s redemption died:
And equal adoration be,
Eternal Paraclete, to thee

Nature Self-Portrait #2
1996
LGBT Artists, Queer Art
Gelatin silver print
J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, California, USA
For “Nature Self Portrait #2” Aguiar photographed herself lying on the ground in a desert landscape. She is seen from the back, legs curled in front of her, her body echoing the three large rocks in the foreground. With the “Nature Self Portrait “ series Aguilar set out to challenge the tradition of landscape and modernist photography, which was largely dominated by white men. Displaying her own nude body places her work in the long lineage of the female nude within Western art, and in many ways challenges art’s standards of beauty.

Inherent beauty out of paper
Yet still the artist has paint
So she tested a different caper
In true artistic fashion so quaint
In splotches of brushwork’s taper
A rainbow of colour acquaint
As stylized as any haute couture draper
Until mama saw her little saint

Scented Garden
Form: Australian Sonnet
Since I have found her love I have no need
to feel the pain of fear. Now we are one
together or not, love , the only deed
to grant us peace so we may see the sun.
For love, a garden scented with delight,
has grown between us through both day and night;
a fragrant flower that has no compare
when tribade lovers dared to say they care.
Our love, we cherished from the very start,
just like a garden raised to be beautiful
our souls delight within each other's heart
and tend the seeds that give our love its pull.
My sweetest love for whom I give my best
in her embrace I now can surely rest
