Sacred Tryst

Sacred Tryst
Form: Cross Sonnet 1

Dreams recall her glory flight
A goddess to light up the night
To heal the pain of battles lost
Tonight his life is not the cost

As wearily he rubs his eyes
Within her light, she grasps his sighs
The goddess kneels where he is lain
Her gentle touch absorbs his pain

And while his eyes close into his sleep
Her tears onto his wounds thus weep
As the early rays of the dawn
Into the new day, he’s reborn

A goddess and knight in their tryst
Upon his soul her sacred kiss

Bearhug by Michael Ondaatje

Michael Ondaatje 1943-

Bearhug

Griffin calls to come and kiss him goodnight
I yell ok. Finish something I’m doing,
then something else, walk slowly round
the corner to my son’s room.
He is standing arms outstretched
waiting for a bearhug. Grinning.

Why do I give my emotion an animal’s name,
give it that dark squeeze of death?
This is the hug which collects
all his small bones and his warm neck against me.
The thin tough body under the pyjamas
locks to me like a magnet of blood.

How long was he standing there
like that, before I came?

A Year in the Life – Day 91

Day 91
Prompt: What colour represents you

Hi Nigel’

‘Hiya! I suspect this isn’t necessarily my favourite colour’

Probably not, as personal choice and what reflects us are often different

‘I don’t think one colour reflects a person either’

I don’t suppose you are limited to one.

‘I think green would feature very highly, in the sense I am proactive with nature and its preservation’

Indeed that would have a strong influence on your personality

‘Yes, I can see that, but I am more than the green activist’

Of course, you are. Like everyone else you are multi-faceted

‘Then I think red will also be part of me as I have a passionate nature’

Passionate as in love, or as in temper, when you lose it

‘Both I would think’

Lust and anger release the same endorphins so are closely related

‘Makes you wonder if the body knows the difference’

Physically probably not, the mind will be in control of that

‘And that is probably why we are more likely to lose our temper with those we care about’

That could well be true. People we don’t care about are rarely allowed close enough to push the anger buttons so I guess it is also inevitable

‘Yes, I think so, and definitely makes red one of my colours’

So that’s red and green, are there any more in the rainbow of your persona?

‘’Haha! I’m my own little rainbow, am I?’

Aren’t we all, mate

‘I think I will add blue to my rainbow’

Why blue?

‘I find blue calming and relaxing’

I’d agree with that

‘And purple too’

You find purple relaxing?

‘No, but if you ass calming blue to the hot-headed red, it helps I think’

Thinking space before reacting in a bad temper – yes, I get that.

‘So my rainbow consists of green, red, blue, and purple. Yes, I like that’

Does that imply you like yourself?

‘Someone has to, don’t they?’

Haha! I think you are doing yourself and injustice, mate. See you tomorrow, Nige
