Flux Year Box 2 by George Maciunas

Flux Year Box 2
1967
Fluxus
Box filled with multiple objects

Maciunas’ vision of his Fluxkits as three-dimensional magazines, each containing a number of small cards, objects, and games contributed by various artists. He presented each Fluxkit in a customised case and the first kits were marketed at $100. The kits exemplified Maciunas’s principles of collectivism and collaboration. While taking art out of the elitist and bourgeois space of the gallery he moved it explicitly into the consumer markets. The intention was to make the customer or viewer question the boundaries of the conventional consumerist lifestyle by bringing art into that world.

Simply 6 minutes- Moonlight’s Song

Inspired by and written for Simply 6 Minutes – thank you, Christine

Well I can’t deny it, and never would, the picture just took my Pagan heart and took me to one of my favourite songs – and of course a moon sonnet for the sacred Mother Moon herself. Blessed be, in love and light )O(

Moonlight’s Song
Form: Acrostic Sonnet

Mother of tides lend me your song
Over the seas echoes of grace
Open my heart and keep me strong
Night-time lady show me your face
Lace my dreams in the ways of light
Invite my soul to go your way
Grant me peace in this world of fight
Hold my heart safe until the day
To trust in your love I am bound
Seeing truth in your lunar glow
Senses burning on silver ground
Oh lady moon I feel your flow
Never-ending rhythm of life
Gentle touch in a world of strife

Word Count: 94
Time: 18 minutes

Bird With Two Right Wings by Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Bird With Two Right Wings
1997

And now our government
a bird with two right wings
flies on from zone to zone
while we go on having our little fun & games
at each election
as if it really mattered who the pilot is
of Air Force One
(They’re interchangeable, stupid!)
While this bird with two right wings
flies right on with its corporate flight crew
And this year its the Great Movie Cowboy in the cockpit
And next year it’s the great Bush pilot
And now it’s the Chameleon Kid
and he keeps changing the logo on his captains cap
and now it’s a donkey and now an elephant
and now some kind of donkephant
And now we recognize two of the crew
who took out a contract on America
and one is a certain gringo wretch
who’s busy monkeywrenching
crucial parts of the engine
and its life-support systems
and they got a big fat hose
to siphon off the fuel to privatized tanks
And all the while we just sit there
in the passenger seats
without parachutes
listening to all the news that’s fit to air
over the one-way PA system
about how the contract on America
is really good for us etcetera
As all the while the plane lumbers on
into its postmodern
manifest destiny

A Day in December

A Garret Poet

Inclement weather for Christmas shoppers in Grafton Street

Pic Chris Bacon

A Day in December
Form: Strambotto

Eyes of children shine with anticipation
Excited chatter in their letters to Saint Nick
While parents are laden with that frustration
Of knowing just the perfect present to pick
Each gift disguised in bows and shimmering wrap
The energies of Christmas must be on tap
As the last parcel is placed beneath the tree
And then there is time for that last cup of tea
