Blue Nude (Souvenir de Biskra) by Henri Matisse

Blue Nude (Souvenir de Biskra)
1907
Fauvism
Oil on canvas
The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Cone Collection, USA

Working on the sculpture, “Reclining Nude I,” Matisse accidentally damaged the piece. Before repairing it, he painted it blue against a palm fronds background. Hard and angular, the nude is a tribute to both Cézanne and a sculpture Matisse saw in Algeria. She is also an intentional response to the soft and pretty nudes seen in the Paris Salon.

Lacework

Lacework
Form: Free Verse

Our love woven like delicate Belgian lace
intricate strands combining
forming a beautiful design
like a lilac in flower
sharing its fragrance on the cool morning air
combining with the aroma of sun-kissed dew
and the wild mint growing by the pond
pungent and earthy
delicate yet strong
our love was the fierce winter wind
entwined with a warm summer breeze
embracing the golden light of sunrise
with the flaming skies of twilight
for we were the moon and the sun
mingled in the flames of love

Dechnad Cummaisc Notes

An Irish poetic form, the Dechnad Cummaisc uses quatrains with both end and internal rhymes. The guidelines are as follows:

Each stanza consists of four lines
Lines 1 and 3 are 8 syllables each
Lines 2 and 4 contain 4 syllables each and end rhyme with each other.
The last word of line 3 rhymes with the middle word of line 4.
There is no limit to the number of quatrains used

Example

Cacophony of Discord by JezzieG

The night assaults all the senses
Crashing sublime
As beauty and terror collide
Waves ride and climb

Horror of tempestuous sea
Foreboding night
Elements dictating our fate
A date with fright

Sweeping clouds into the darkness
Of breaking ships
Of defeated broken remains
Wind strains and whips

The beams of light let them all down
Frantic scrambles
In the lost echoes of discord
Towards shambles

Towards boulders along the shore
Lightning strikes shocks
Storm’s aftermath revealed at dawn
Death on the rocks

Title: The Deamon, the Woman and the Bird – african fairy tale from Senegal.

This is a drawing I created on my phone and it depicts the story of a man in a far off land who goes in search of a wife but couldn’t find the right partner. One day he took his horse for a ride and met a wise old man. The old man told him to go into the woods where he would find a lemon tree with three lemons and told him to pick them and see what happens.

So the man picked the lemons and began to peel one of them. Suddenly a beautiful woman appeared in the clearing who asked him to give her some bread and a tobacco leaf. The man said he didn’t have any…

a swaggered walk
threatened the peace
words never cease
heard it before
the ranting on
the same old thing
no good to bring
my ears shut down
toss your weight round
aggression’s rag
becomes a drag
I’m done, I’m gone

Form: Free Verse

where are you
I can’t see from the ground
with you hiding in the skies
but I will climb up
and join you for the view
while swaying in wind
making you leaves shake with a bustle-rustle
and it seems like you are talking to me
about the panorama of woods and fields
or perhaps you’re saying
it’s time to go down now

Violet Skies (WPCC)

Inspired by and written for Weekly Prompts Colour Challenge – thank you Sue and GC

Form: Paulo Comitatu Sonnet

Come quietly please violet skies
softly enter my room
eyes adjust to the gloom
ready to meet my doom
Take me quickly sweet violet skies
my love don’t make me wait
don’t let the hour get late
don’t pause, don’t hesitate
My violet skies come to ease my pain
no more time left to weep
violet skies come to reap
eternal souls must sleep
Violet skies released me into the rain
So you and I may dance with love again
