Lyrics by Iron Maiden

As the sun breaks above the ground
An old man stands on the hill
As the ground warms to the first rays of light
A birdsong shatters the still

His eyes are ablaze
See the madman in his gaze

Fly on your way, like an eagle
Fly as high as the sun
On your way, like an eagle
Fly, touch the sun, yeah

Now the crowd breaks and a young boy appears
Looks the old man in the eye
As he spreads his wings and shouts at the crowd
In the name of God my father, I fly

His eyes seem so glazed
As he flies on the wings of a dream
Now he knows his father betrayed
Now his wings turn to ashes, to ashes his grave

Fly on your way like an eagle
Fly as high as the sun
On your way, like an eagle
Fly, touch the sun

Yeah, fly on your way like an eagle
Fly as high as the sun
On your way, like an eagle
Fly as high as the sun

On your way, like an eagle
Fly, touch the sun
On your way, like an eagle
Fly!

Fly as high as the sun

Charlie’s Gone by Jez Farmer

Recalling that night, the first time we met
Too blind to see the harm in front of me
Believing you had come to set me free
By numbing pain and making me forget
Selling my soul, I didn’t have to be
And you pushed me into denying pain
By drowning the truth surging through my vein
You were a baited trap I didn’t see
I fell into darkness as you took the strain
In the insanity I lost my voice
With no way out I saw no other choice
Each time you set me free to live again
But the real truth you were my Hobson’s choice
When living gave me nothing to rejoice
And in my craving you I found my voice
Rejecting you to claim my being back
To be myself and put living on track
And in my craving you I found my voice
As you fought me back by dragging me down
But that last time you couldn’t make me drown
Denying the craving I found my voice
And I can live my life in my own way
I don’t need you to make living okay

Sonnets and Lemons

Form: Raven’s Rovi Sonnet 106

Her fragrance released on the midnight bloom
By the moonlight and frustrations of love
So sweet the essence breaking nightly gloom
Drifting yellowness from the lemon tree
Tender sweet scent yet sharpness breaks the bliss
The moment is lost between you and me
In the vagaries of an unshared kiss
Apart we are two halves that make the whole
Separate yet one this love I speak of
For my heart knows your kissings are for me
And mine for you when we can just be
For it’s not the same making do with Zoom
But through these strange times we can and do roll
We’re strong when we let love carry the toll

Lyrics by Gary Moore

They came for him one winter’s night.
Arrested, he was bound.
They said there’d been a robbery,
his pistol had been found.
They marched him to the station house,
he waited till the dawn.
And as they led him to the dock,
he knew that he’d been wronged.
“You stand accused of robbery, “
he heard the bailiff say.
He knew without an alibi,
tomorrow’s light would mourn his freedom.
Over the hills and far away,
for ten long years he’ll count the days.
Over the mountains and the seas,
a prisoner’s life for him there’ll be.
He knew that it would cost him dear,
but yet he dare not say.
Just where he’d been that fateful night,
a secret it must stay.
He had to fight back tears of rage.
His heart beat like a drum.
For with the wife of his best friend,
he spent his final night of freedom.
Over the hills and far away,
he swears he will return one day.
Far from the mountains and the seas,
back in her arms again he’ll be.
Over the hills and far away.
Over the hills and,
over the hills and,
over the hills and far away.
Each night within his prison cell,
he looks out through the bars.
He reads the letters that she wrote.
One day he’ll know the taste of freedom.
Over the hills and far away,
she prays he will return one day.
As sure as the rivers reach the seas,
back in his arms again she’ll be.
Over the hills and far away,
he swears he will return one day.
As sure as the river reach the seas,
back in his arms is where she’ll be.
Over the hills and far away,
she prays he will return one day.
As sure as the rivers reach the sea,
back in her arms is where he’ll be.
Over the hills,
over the hills and far away.
Over the hills,
over the hills and far away
