As a child, I went into school
Studying hard on every rule
Ready to make my way in life
And then I met with stress and strife

Anyone can write words in rhyme
Without learning poetic art
You can draw too, but where to start
A pencil line from the first time

Waking up with my face a frown
The nine to five wearing me down
My love of art left far behind
I had lost my way to unwind

Anyone can write words in rhyme
Without learning poetic art
You can draw too, but where to start
A pencil line from the first time

I got some pens, started to write
I got some paint, drawing my sight
Just hobbies purely for pleasure
That’s something you cannot measure

Anyone can write words in rhyme
Without learning poetic art
You can draw too, but where to start
A pencil line from the first time

Images of words or fine-line ink
Opened my mind a chance to think
Now working brings me so much joy
The wonder of art my employ

Anyone can write words in rhyme
Without learning poetic art
You can draw too, but where to start
A pencil line from the first time

Twinkling (Ragtag Daily Prompt)

Inspired by and written for the Ragtag Daily Prompt, my thanks to Curious Cat

Form: Barzeletta

My eyes gaze upon the night sky
To the little stars sparkle by
Bringing the night its magic dreams
That come alive in lunar beams

A sparkle from light-years away
Yet its beauty is shining bright
A distant sub we see at night
As to its worlds, it brings the day

The light I see is an old one
From a time that is long gone
I wonder if it’s still out there
But for now, it is mine to share

A sparkle from light-years away
Yet its beauty is shining bright
A distant sub we see at night
As to its worlds, it brings the day

One page from one of my notebooks from 2014 – haha!

Like the egg that never did hatch
Words and phrases form a patch
Stitched together by ink, not thread
Not sure it works, has to be said

Jotterings found in old notebooks
Random thoughts on paper disperse
Let them mingle make up a verse
Take a deep one see how it looks

Old William came down the stairs
Someone moans about stocks and shares
It rhymes says Bill, give it a whiz
No guessing on who Old Bill is

Jotterings found in old notebooks
Random thoughts on paper disperse
Let them mingle make up a verse
Take a deep one see how it looks

Posh Percy looks up, takes a breath
‘A change you ain’t writing about death’
He’d be next, but he’s already dead
Always sarky ghosts filling my head

Jotterings found in old notebooks
Random thoughts on paper disperse
Let them mingle make up a verse
Take a deep one see how it looks s

Panorama (Ragtag Daily Prompt)

Unzipping the tent at dawn
The view amazes us this morn
As far as any eye can see
The wilderness in its beauty

A mug of tea maybe a bite
Striking it down ready to walk
In the silence, we hear birds talk
Then into backpacker’s delight

A steep climb that feels hard to do
But it’s so worth the stretching view
In the distance a glimpse of coast
Where the best fish and chips can boast

A mug of tea maybe a bite
Striking it down ready to walk
In the silence, we hear birds talk
Then into backpacker’s delight

Our journey stretches out far ahead
Each night we reach another camp
With just time to chat by the lamp
Before lights out and time for bed

A mug of tea maybe a bite
Striking it down ready to walk
In the silence, we hear birds talk
Then into backpacker’s delight

A walking holiday is best
Away from towns, it brings us rest
We sit munching chips on the beach
A week ago seemed out of reach

A mug of tea maybe a bite
Striking it down ready to walk
In the silence, we hear birds talk
Then into backpacker’s delight

Clot (Ragtag Daily Prompt)

‘Oh, you’re a clumsy fool,’ she said
Her phone right in front of her head
Before departing in her rush
Still playing her game, Candy Crush

Lamppost has seen it all before
With their smartphones, none see him there
As they bump him without a care
Such accidents that happen more

And I watch from the old tea room
It fills me with deepening gloom
If this world of tech is a dream
Can’t the congealed stuff just be cream

Lamppost has seen it all before
With their smartphones, none see him there
As they bump him without a care
Such accidents that happen more

Darwinism takes over fast
An accident it ain’t the last
Spreading jam and cream on a scone
Even quicker that will be gone

Lamppost has seen it all before
With their smartphones, none see him there
As they bump him without a care
Such accidents that happen more
