Venus Anadyomene is an oil painting depicting Venus rising from the sea and wringing her hair. Venus is said to have been born full-grown from a shell, depicted at the bottom left. Smaller than the usual birth of Venus paintings it simply identifies the subject rather than appearing as a boat-like vessel for Venus. Titian’s Venus is presented as voluptuous and her sideways glance owes much to antique types of Venus sculpture.
