War Pigs
Black Sabbath
1970

Like many writers, I have created some characters who I hold dear. It is almost 20 years ago I was sitting in my room facing the biggest do-or-die decision I hope I ever have to make. “War Pigs” came on the radio and some random ideas popped into my head – I am a writer I wrote them down. Those ideas became the introduction to a set of stories that are ongoing even now. It didn’t say if the two guys escaping hell made it or not but they had to escape. Kip and Gai had come into being. It was in the writing I made the decision to do rather than die.

The Crossing – Introduction by JezzieG

The mist was heavy with the scent of freedom. The freedom that was beginning to slowly emerge with each step we took forward. Our pulses were racing as the dawn light got brighter and our footsteps took on a more urgent pace.

Our absence would be soon noticed, and we knew it. The fake bodies made of old sheets and blankets lying together in bed would not fool anyone in the light of day. Honestly, I do not think they would have fooled anyone in the night either, but we had to get away, there was no time to make works of art,

At last, we were on the bridge. As if our legs knew the end was near, they broke into a run. And the air echoed with the sound of ricocheting bullets as our bodies were swallowed in the mist…

Healing of the Nation

Inspired by and written for Song Lyric Sunday – thank you, Jim

Rock ‘n’ roll, as with the rest of the art world, does seem to have more than its fair share of early and untimely deaths. I was torn between Hendrix and Jim Morrison when I first looked at Jim’s post this morning. Then Jacob Miller popped into my head, and my love of reggae took over so I will run with him

Jacob Miller 1952-1980

Jacob Miller was a Jamaican reggae artist and Rastafari. Whilst he was a prolific solo artist he was also lead singer with the reggae band Inner Circle, with whom he toured and recorded with the band until his death in a car accident in 1980 when he was 27. His son was also killed.

“Healing of the Nation”, written by Jacob miller and Ian Lewis, is from Miller’s album “Wanted” released in 1978.

Please Mr. Minister, a word with you
Only take a minute, sir, so don’t you screw

You no fight ‘gainst the rum head
You no fight ‘gainst the wine head
You no fight ‘gainst the cigarette smoking

Yet you know, yet you know
These things give cancer
Yet you know, yet you know
These things give cancer

Rastaman know the truth
So you can’t fool the youth
Rastaman know the truth
So you can’t fool the youth

What was hidden from the wise and prudent
Shall reveal to the babe and suckling
What was hidden from the wise and prudent
Shall reveal to the babe and suckling

Tell me why do you fight against the collie man?
Tell me why do you fight against the collie man?

Yet you know, yet you know
It’s the healing of the nation
Yet you know, yet you know
It’s the healing of the nation

Tell me why do you fight against the collie man?
Tell me why do you fight against the collie man?

Yet you know, yet you know
It’s the healing of the nation
Yet you know, yet you know
It’s the healing of the nation, you know

Too much partialism inna dis business y’all
God knows all of these things give cancer

Liar man, doctor man, Indian chief
Babylon Kingdom know the truth
Liar man, doctor man, Indian chief

Yet them know, yet them know
It’s the healing of the nation
Yet them know, yet them know
They know it’s the truth

Tell me why do you fight against the collie man

Yet you know, yet you know
It’s the healing of the nation
Yet them know, yet them know
It’s the curing of cancer, asthma, razman

Rastaman know the truth
So you can’t fool the youth
Natty dreadlocks know it’s the truth
So you can’t fool the youth

Yet them know, yet them know
It’s the healing of the nation
Yet them know, yet them know
