Simeon Jones has bought a new car
it’s parked outside
like a shining new star
and his wife, Betty has the latest
Kenwood Chef for baking cakes
a Victoria sponge deliciously light
it wins prizes at the Christmas Fete
Jethro and Ann Smith can’t stand for that
running up debts for a new car
new gadgets
new this and that
things changed when the Jones’ moved in
no more being natural
chatting about the weather over the garden wall
keeping up with the Jones
and credit cards maxed

That’s true. I had a friend years ago who couldn’t afford her never seen in the same outfit twice life so used to order an outfit for a do from a catalogue, wear it and send it back. Yet, and this I really didn’t get, she would look down her nose at people who hired forweddings and such like

Mum bought me a watch for my 50th, my first proper gent’s watch. I stopped wearing watches in my 30s it’s nivce to wear one again

Having said that my two sons both wear watches, but try getting the herberts to answer their phones – impossible
