Prepared piano and performers – Staged during Fluxus Internationale Festpiele Neuester Musik, Hörsaal des Städtischen Museums, Wiesbaden, Germany, September 1, 1962

Created by Philip Corner and Fluxus artists George Maciunas, Wolf Vostell, Nam June Paik, Emmet Williams, Dick Higgins, Alison Knowles, and Benjamin Patterson “Piano Activities” was part of the 1962 Fluxus festival held in Wiesbaden, Germany. The composition of the formal score is accompanied by instructions for the players to manipulate the sound items such as chains and bells, plucking and rubbing the piano strings with glass or sticks. Corner didn’t attend the festival and the Fluxus artists dismantled the piano using hammers, drills, and saws instead of following Corner’s instructions.
