A subject I dread any time of year is KL’s prompt this week. – https://new2writing.wordpress.com/2021/11/18/writephoto-shopping/
However, a friend dared me to write a poem about her – and you handed it to me on a plate, KL. So this is dedicated to my mate, Kels, who I know will appreciate the cheeky humour. Thank you, KL

It Starts Boxing Day
Form: Free Verse
Bags secreted in cupboards
on Boxing Day
before Auld Lang Syne has been sung
and bells have barely finished their dong
and the kids aren’t even thinking of a list
she thinks she got a bargain in the sales
a jumper for Johnny
he won’t grow that much
like he did last year
and the knitted top just doesn’t fit
but it’s ok
she’s done the shopping for the big day
before the dried turkey is in a curry
with custard drenched cake for pud
like anyone eats that
and grandma reaches for another bottle of gin
she’ll be off her tits until spring
as I sit in my rocker
my mind bemused
I really don’t see the point
and you ask if November is too soon
I know a lady who would say
you’re too late
well it was never going to be Slade, was it?

🤣 I think my mother would get on well with your friend. Brilliant (especially granny) 👏. Thank you so much for your #writephoto entry. KL ❤
